Jane Howard exhibiting in Cornwall College Exhibition

Jane Howard is one of our two 2020/21 Krowji Graduate Studio Award winners, and work from her ‘Women of Steel’ collection is currently on display at the Cornwall College Art and Design Summer Show. Also on display is work from painter Max Whetter, her fellow 20/21 residency award-winner. Previous Graduate Studio Award winner (2017-2018) and current tenant Sarah Cooling has her ceramics on display in the exhibition too.

Jane’s collection bases itself on depictions of women who were conscripted to work in Sheffield’s steel factories during the First and Second World War, and whose demanding work keeping these vital steelworks running alongside maintaining domestic duties has often been overlooked and forgotten by society. She has used oil paint on rusted steel sheets to tell the stories of these women.

The Art and Design Summer Show featuring works by this year’s Cornwall College graduates will be running in the Proctor Building at Cornwall College Camborne until Friday 2nd July.
