Krowji’s Top Ten reasons to visit studios during Open Studios Cornwall 2019

There are plenty of reasons to visit some of the (almost 300!) artists taking part in Open Studios Cornwall 25th May – 2nd June 2019 but if you still need some convincing here’s our top ten…

If you’re feeling inspired to plan your visit after reading this don’t forget there will be 50 studios open at Krowji for you to enjoy as part of this event!

Deal Direct

Open Studios Cornwall gives you a chance to buy direct from the artist or maker, talk to them about their process, hear their inspiration and then shake the very hand that sculpted that vase or painted that seascape!

Love Local

Buying from local artists, makers and designers who live and work in Cornwall means you are having a positive impact on our own local economy and community…

Find your Sense of Adventure – Discover people & new places off the beaten track

Pick up a catalogue, find a map and set-off down hedge-lined country roads, towards tiny seaside towns you’ve never heard of in search of converted cow-sheds, kitted-out workshops and spare-room studios! There are individual artists with incredible spaces in gardens and fields along with studio clusters and creative hubs in more urban areas like Krowji in Redruth, where you’ll find 50 under one roof! We can’t think of a better way to spend a day in Cornwall than searching out studios, as long as there are snacks along the way of course.

Strike up conversations

The artists & makers opening their doors are welcoming you into their creative spaces, if you like their work make sure you tell them!

Guilt-Free Gifts

Handmade items bought from artists and makers are not mass-produced in large, waste-producing factories, wrapped up in plastic and shipped halfway around the world, so you probably don’t have to feel guilty about them. Buying handmade, direct from the makers, means you are supporting small, ethical businesses.

Buy Bespoke

Buying handmade items and artwork as gifts means you’re choosing thoughtful and unique presents for people (or yourself – go on, you’ve earned it).

Be individual

When you buy work from an artists’ studio at Krowji, or any of the other open studios in Cornwall, you’ll be buying it directly from the person who made it which means there are chances to have conversations about customisation and commissions to create one-of-a-kind pieces.

Invest in Quality

Artists, makerscrafters and designers work hard to ensure that each piece is perfect and take pride in their work, materials and designs. Making things by hand with smaller scale production means higher quality and investing in things that are built to last!

Suport the Just A Card Campaign

The JUST A CARD campaign aims to encourage people to buy from artists, designers, makers and independent shops by reinforcing the message that all purchases, however small, even ‘just a card’ are so vital to the prosperity and survival of small businesses.

Spread the Love

Buying pieces of artwork during Open Studios Cornwall means you are supporting artists and designers, people who love what they do and that passion is shown in their product! You are investing in the maker who created it and helping their work continue.
