Ella Carty’s ‘The Bright Side’ at The Byre Gallery

Krowji tenant Ella Carty is taking part in a show entitled ‘The Bright Side’ (5th June – 18th July) which aims to provoke a sensory experience of colour for its viewer.

Ella created her new work during the long winter lockdown. The canvases are saturated with colour, heat, and light intended to counterbalance the grey Cornish winter. By suffusing the canvas surfaces with red, orange, and pink-pigmented ink, Ella alludes to exotic adventure and escape to warmer climes during a period when travel could only be yearned for and not physically realised.

The show at The Byre Gallery on the Rame Peninsula has been curated by gallery owner Elaine Dye who has chosen Ella’s recent ‘Room’ paintings to display alongside the paintings of Sophie Harding. Both painters share a love of vibrant colours and are inspired by the work of Matisse as well as the flora and fauna of the south-west coast of Cornwall. Their work will be displayed alongside that of glass artist Helen Eastham, jeweller Lindsay Mann, and ceramicist Judy McKenzie.

The show opens on Thursday 3rd June with a mini private view from 5pm to 7.30pm which will also take place on the following day Friday 4th June. If you would like to join the private view, you can contact the gallery.
