Vicki Aimers’ ‘Take One Square’ Project

“It’s called the ‘Take One Square’ Project which is part of my bigger study ‘The Palimpsest Project’. It’s all about the history of piecework and the lives of pieceworkers. It came loosely from the idea of how through the pandemic people have had to navigate their working lives while caring for others all at home.”  – Vicki Aimers

Book artist and Krowji tenant Vicki Aimers will be hosting her drop-in event ‘Take One Square’ at the Museum of Cornish Life in Helston as part of the Helston Makes It Festival. Part of her project looking into the history of pieceworking, this free workshop will take place on Thursday 23rd September between 1-3pm. Vicki would also love to hear any stories attendees have about piecework… maybe a family member was a pieceworker or they themselves have worked in this industry?

Collaged stitched squares will be made during the workshop from scraps, some of which will have the tally mark stitched on some of them, an ancient mark that was used in many different ways and has a long and varied history. The workshop is suitable for ages 12+, materials will be provided and no booking is required to attend.
