Vicki Aimers- Morrab Library Residency

Vicki Aimers Artist Residency at Morrab Library, Penzance – 22nd to 26th August 2023

Inspired by the life and environmental ideas of resident of Cornwall, who found love and settled in Redruth, Catherine Payton Phillips (1727-1794), Vicki Aimers will be based at the beautiful Morrab Library in the grounds of Morrab Gardens in Penzance, for a week long Artist Residency in August.

It will be an exciting week long of activities and opportunities to make new work in response to being at the Library. She will also be running bookable workshops throughout her time there, and also a community event on Saturday 26th August, 10-3pm, in the grounds of the Library, making seed diaries and planting seeds. Everyone welcome and no need to book.

All these events are inspired by Catherine and her ideas to ‘beautify wastelands’ and grow fruit trees to feed communities. A hand printed copy of her memoirs, by her stepson and London based master printer – James Phillips (born in Redruth), is in the archives at Kresen Kernow. The story of his family is fascinating too!

Vicki Aimers will also be giving away to visitors during her week there, home grown apple trees, harvested from apples given away during last year’s Fun Palaces at Redruth Library. Lots to explore!
