Our tenants, irrepressibly innovative as always, have not let the pandemic get in the way of their pace of production, charitable efforts or design flair. Kate Richards at Love Betty, Sue Willis, and Dawn Freeman at Rasbery Pavlova are just some of the tenants making PPE for front-line workers free of charge and for members of the public to purchase.
Sue Willis, a tenant who moved in over the summer, has been sewing PPE since the 12th of March. When we last checked in with her August, she had created 52 sets of scrubs and 120 scrub bags for the NHS free of charge, and in addition had made and provided over 3200 free masks to the NHS and dentists as well as supplying them for the public. Now Sue has made 40 additional sets of scrubs, 40 tops in child friendly patterns and 4800 masks in total. Both Kate and Sue at Studio 206 were selling masks from their studio stall to visitors during the Open Studios event.

Jo Tyler from Hudson & Jo has been making masks and face coverings for family and friends as well as selling many of them.
Dawn Freeman has been making luxurious, custom-made face masks, and bandanas designed to be non-restrictive and breathable. Made with Liberty silk or cotton for clients over at her Challk Studio & Atelier Etsy store, Dawn’s masks are inspired by nature, designed with zero waste in mind and come with a matching bag.

Tim Hendy’s wife Jess, who normally works alongside him in his Krowji studio but is currently shielding, has also been busy making masks. Ordinarily a costume designer, Jess has sold them all around the world (with Tim taking them to the post office every day for delivery!). They have gone to Australia, Finland, Germany, Singapore and several to the US.

With every mask that Jess sells, a donation goes to Mind to help support people who have suffered with their mental health during the pandemic – so far she has raised over £600. Her Etsy store Cornish Cotton Crafts is here.
