In less than three weeks, Open Studios will be in action all across Cornwall. If you have been following our social media, you will know that over 30 of our Krowji tenants will be taking part in the Cornwall wide event. You also may have noticed that many of them are opening the doors of their studios both in a physical sense, and a virtual one. We thought we might put together a little piece on what you can expect from both experiences.
The beauty of Open Studios is the opportunity to have a conversation with the designer/maker about what inspires their work, and why you personally connect with the piece. Thanks to the efficiencies of our digital world, these artist interactions can happen both online and in person. We encourage you to explore the studios both physically and virtually. Have a browse through their Instagram before you go, enquire about a specific piece through a message, or just check back afterwards if you’ve not been able to forget that special something you spotted on your earlier visit.
A visit to an artist’s Open Studio is a unique opportunity to see into the artist’s creative world. Our tenants explore their creativity here, and have filled their spaces with their art, their inspirations and their musing. Joining the artist physically in their space is a lovely chance to meet with them, and view work in progress and of course pick up a gift or two from their items on sale. Krowji and Open Studios Cornwall have taken great care in considering how best to run a safe event in line with government Covid-19 guidelines. As such artists will be welcoming visitors in small numbers into their spaces to accommodate effective social distancing. We will also be requesting visitors to our site to wear face coverings when inside our buildings, and to use hand sanitizer on arrival. You may also be asked to use contactless payments for your craft and design purchases.
As well as exciting in-person options, you can also experience some special moments with the makers via their virtual channels. Lots of our makers will be revealing their studios’ character in an online setting. Through gallery style video tours of their exhibited work, and more detailed videos and images of their practice and work in progress, you can get a great experience from your own home. Through online sales channels, and direct messaging with the artist you will also still be able to pick up some wonderful design, craft and fine art pieces for your home or someone special.
Visit Krowji physically or online as part of Open Studios Cornwall every day 11am – 4pm between 29th August – 6th September 2020.
