Gabrielle Teaney

Gabrielle’s art explores the destabilising emotions experienced during transitions, such as changing schools, entering adulthood, moving house etc, whilst celebrating the growth and discovery that these changes bring. She deeply explored the integration into an unfamiliar culture when she moved to Saskatchewan, Canada and Quebec, and the discombobulation of returning home after 8 years away. Recently her focus has shifted to the transformative experiences women face throughout their lives, from menses, to childbirth and menopause. This is largely influenced by her work as a birth doula. The lack of ritual or recognition in our culture, of the changes woman undergo throughout their lives, leaves a silence that needs to be filled.
