Dolly Kershaw is a sculptor and cabaret performer based in Penryn. In her practice she reimagines everyday objects and statements with deadpan humour and a tragicomic outlook that combines the personal and political. Often the work struggles against itself, or its material choices negate its efforts, implying embarrassment and failure. She works with a wide variety of media and processes which are often cheaply available and in everyday use, selected for their conceptual bearing: light/ heavy, elastic/solid, trashy/precious, hidden/showy.
Dolly studied BA Photography at Camberwell College of Arts (2013) and MA Sculpture at Royal College of Art (2020). She was recently joint-awarded the Overall Award at the Exeter Contemporary Open, Exeter Phoenix Gallery. She has exhibited widely in the UK at venues including Bo Lee Gallery, Royal Society of Sculptors, Southwark Park Galleries, Flat Time House and Eastside Projects. As a cabaret artist she has performed at Soho Theatre, The Mildmay Club, Ugly Duck and Camden People’s Theatre.
