He loves exploring ‘off the beaten track’ and always seeks out alternative views of familiar
places. Andrew records these landscapes by creating a number of sketches, using a variety
of media, in his daily sketchbook.
These sketches are then used as unique references for his final paintings and drawings in
oils and charcoal. Andrew is particularly interested in studies of light and perspective that
reflect the subtle nuances of the changing landscape through the seasons.
He was elected a full member of the Pastel Society in June 2023 and an Associate Member of
the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists in May 2023.
He exhibits regularly with RBSA in Birmingham, New English Art Club and the Pastel Society
in London. His work is represented by galleries in Cornwall, Devon, Cotswolds, Derbyshire
and Cambridgeshire.
In 2021 he won the Bowyer Drawing Prize at the New English Art Club annual exhibition and
was Highly Commended at the RBSA Friends exhibition.
During 2020 and 2021 he painted the view from his studio window over 120 times –
recording the changing landscape over this period. The resulting studies were made into his
first published book ‘Views from the studio window’.
Andrew teaches regularly at St Ives School of Painting and with Cornwall School of Art in
Truro, Cornwall as well as running workshops at his studio in Redruth.
