My process starts with exploration. Whether in the natural world or man made, locally or overseas I set out with my camera focusing on the unusual. It could be the way light hits a building or the shape and texture of a cliff, or the rust on an old shipwreck. I feel compelled to photograph images which I find particularly interesting. My goal is not to replicate the images I’ve found so intriguing but to produce a body of work that captures the essence of that place or time.
Predominantly a painter, I use non-traditional methods and materials. I am fascinated by textures created through layers of decay and destruction whether it’s organic or man made and the way light changes the mood of an image. Also whenever possible, I collect objects found around the site I have photographed and include these 3D objects alongside my 2D work.
