Primarily, I am interested in the process of painting in layers, and manipulating the ‘accident’
Experimenting with the physicality of painting mediums and how they combine and react is integral to my practice, and something I constantly explore. My paintings are reminiscent of our connection to the immersive and overwhelming power of nature. Painted forms are poured intuitively, emulating my own tactile experiences of the sea. Spontaneous and rugged traits of costal swell appear on the canvas, these compositional elements are ambiguous, and prompt allusions to other organic forms. I enjoy this ambiguity and hearing what others see within the works. Responding to these forms I manipulate, pull forward and sink back details through a process of layering and varnishing.
Having recently moved down to Cornwall I am excited to see how my immediate proximity to this wild and wonderful coastline will influence my practice.
