Silver falls to earth from an exploding star called a ‘Supernova’
Each piece of jewellery is one of a kind, individually created in Claire’s studio at Krowji. She works in many different ways, such as sculpting organic forms with a blow torch. She draws onto silver, brass and copper with handmade tools and a hammer, each mark is individually made. Claire continuously explores the silver, finding new ways to create innovative shape, form and texture. She takes her influences from everywhere and everything.
“Every mountain, every rock on this planet, every living thing, every piece of you and me was forged in the furnaces of space. … Every atom in our bodies was formed not on Earth, but was created in the depths of space, through the epic lifecycle of the stars“. Prof Brian Cox
Claire’s work is centered around the complex human mind. She uses oils and a variety of materials including installation to capture structured yet often chaotic emotions. The mind with its surreal thoughts and search for grounding imagery feature strongly in Claire’s work. She questions the unpredictability of the world revolving around us and draws inspiration from the sheer vastness of space. Claire works sensitively and freely to convey our connection within space and how she finds this a comfort rather than something to be feared.
‘I am always painting in my mind and when I can, I put these thoughts and images onto board or into an installation…… I stay limitless that way I can be true to me and true to my work’.
