Creative Kernow, based at Krowji, is the umbrella organisation for the following nine projects. Together we support the production, promotion and distribution of work by creative practitioners in Cornwall because we believe in creativity's transformative power and want more people to benefit from it.

Disabled Access

Krowji’s buildings are spread out across a 1.5 acre site and have varying degrees of physical accessibility. Our Percy Williams Building is DDA compliant and we have made a number of modifications and improvements to our existing spaces in the old buildings.

Main building, Melting Pot cafe and meeting rooms
From the Blowinghouse Hill side of the site there is gently ramped access via the front door to Reception, with a power assisted door. From the Percy Williams Building side, there is ramped access to the courtyard and then access to Reception via an automatic sliding door.  There is also ramped access to the Melting Pot Café from the courtyard.

Once inside the building there is level access to Krowji main reception and to:

– Offices for Creative Kernow, Carn to Cove, Cornwall Music Forum, Cornwall 365, Creative Skills, FEAST and What’s on Cornwall
– The Melting Pot Café
– Our 3 meeting rooms are at the rear of the café
– Studios W13 and W26 – W30

There is an accessible WC located near the reception office. There is no wheelchair access to the first floor (Studios W12 & W17 – 25).

The Reception office is equipped with a hearing aid loop system and there is also a portable hearing aid loop system available free of charge for use in meeting rooms.

Percy Williams Building
Access to the building is via keypad controlled powered external doors.  All visitors need to contact the studio they are visiting via the key pad and the door will then be opened remotely.  Inside, there is level access on each floor and a passenger lift is available to each level.  Some internal fire-doors are on powered hold-backs.  There is a disabled access WC on each floor and a level access wet-room/shower on the first floor for use by all tenants.

Science Block
There is level access to the Science Block studios via the front doors, although these double doors currently have narrow single leaves (650 mm / 25.5 inches) and wheel chair users may need assistance in order to unbolt the second door.

There is a ramp down from the car park to the Science Block front door – this ramp is slightly steeper than the recommended gradient for wheelchair use.  The Science Block external doors are usually locked during the day for security purposes so all visitors need to notify the person they are coming to see in advance.

Once inside, there is level access to studios W1 to W10.  There is an easy-entry WC which is partially DDA compliant at present.

Miracle Theatre office and rehearsal space
Miracle Theatre regret that these are currently inaccessible to wheelchair users.

Elliott Hut – woodwork studios
We regret that this building is currently inaccessible to wheelchair users, but we can supply a portable access ramp if required.
