Krowji supports Redruth Information Exchange
22 January 2010
The Redruth Action Plan Project aims to create a community supported vision for the economic development of Redruth over the next 20 years.
The project brings together the community, businesses and site owners, along with the public sector to develop a vision and agree the roles that the partners in the project need to take to turn this vision into a reality to give the town the positive future that it deserves.
Funded by the South West Regional Development Agency, the Homes and Communities Agency and Convergence, CPR Regeneration has been working with consultant EDAW/Aecom to develop an Action Plan for Redruth. Stage 1 - developing a business case for investment - has been completed and identifies a number of potential themes to help to regenerate Redruth, including: creative sectors; cultural heritage; tourism; sustainability; a gourmet centre and several others.
The Redruth Action Plan Project was launched in November 2009 and the following six-months will see a major consultation exercise to scope out and test a vision for Redruth which will be used to promote the town and attract investment.
A workshop with pupils from Redruth school was held on 8th December 2009. Workshops with the site representatives and the Redruth business community took place on 6th January 2010. A workshop for the voluntary sector will take place later in the month. The project will also be opening 'An Information Exchange' in a shop on Fore Street in Redruth during the week commencing 8th February 2010. Everyone in Redruth will be encouraged to visit to put forward their ideas as to what they would like to see from their town in future years.
This vision should help to guide the development of Redruth over the next 20 years to:
. Enable the redevelopment of derelict land that will contribute to the economic regeneration of Redruth
. Promote increased day and night time footfall in Redruth around a new identity for the town
. Diversify the range and quality of retail, leisure, food and drink outlets and uses
. Promote better access to Redruth by car, bus, train, cycle and on foot
. Improve the marketing and promotion of the town
. Maximise the opportunities for attracting private investment into Redruth
